The Empty Places Documentary

Saturday, June 23rd, 2012

Here at Boulder Edge TV, we believe everyone has a captivating story to tell, and Boulder native Ralena Gordon is no exception. For the past five years, she has traveled to hundreds of mental institutions across the United States to craft a feature length documentary about the history of mental illness in our country. Her feature documentary “The Empty Places” contains beautiful photography, vivid narration, and first hand accounts from former patients, family, and staff. We met up with Ralena to learn more about this fascinating work in progress. From her website:

As I have begun gathering the stories that fill the empty places, the thing that I have come to recognize is that the people, both staff members and former patients, do not want to be forgotten. They want their stories to be told … their stories to be heard. They wish for this life and these struggles to have meaning. If we can listen to these stories of our past, learn from our history, we may not make the same mistakes and our future decisions will be better foar it.

Check out The Empty Places website to learn how you can help support this wonderful project.
